Closed material loops optimise resource use
As a permanent material, steel can be infinitely recycled without any loss of quality into a range of new steel products.
Once melted down, steel is recycled into new steel, to be used for cars, trains, buildings, packaging or thousands of other applications.
The steelmaking process needs scrap metal, so every steel plant is also a recycling plant and every steel product has a high level of recycled content.
Even steel that has been incinerated can be recovered from bottom ash and used again to make new steel products.
