The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)
The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (EU) 2025/40, which came into force 12th August 2026, is the centre piece of EU packaging legislation replacing the Packaging and Packaging Waste directive 94/62/EC.
The PPWR aims to contribute to reaching the objectives of the European Green Deal and the new circular economy action plan (CEAP 2.0) to ensure that “all packaging on the EU market is reusable or recyclable in an economically viable way by 2030.
