The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR)
The Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (EU) 2025/40, which came into force 12th August 2026, is the centre piece of EU packaging legislation replacing the Packaging and Packaging Waste directive 94/62/EC.
This regulation introduces clearer, stricter, and more uniform requirements for all economic operators and Member States, fostering a transition towards a circular economy.Â
Its primary objective is to ensure the smooth functioning of the internal market while ensuring that “all packaging on the EU market is reusable or recyclable in an economically viable way by 2030, in line with the new circular economy action plan (CEAP 2.0.)
